Is your benefits policy ready for the EU Pay Transparency Directive? Find out

On 27 October 2026, Beneflo CEO Juris Zalāns joined LTV1’s morning programme Rīta Panorāma to discuss employee evaluation, pay systems, and the growing importance of pay transparency in Latvia.

Following his recent opinion piece in IR, Juris continued the conversation on national television, bringing attention to a topic that will soon affect employers across Latvia: the EU Pay Transparency Directive.

The directive introduces new requirements for how companies assess, structure, and communicate employee compensation. And one of the key changes is that equal pay is about more than just salary.

Bonuses, company cars, additional paid leave, and other employee benefits form part of total compensation and must be considered when evaluating pay equality. This means that two employees receiving the same base salary may not necessarily receive equal overall compensation.

For employers, the challenge goes beyond reviewing salary structures. Companies will also need to understand how benefits are distributed, whether differences can be objectively justified, and how accurately this information is recorded.

As Latvia prepares to implement the directive, transparent and consistent employee evaluation and compensation practices are becoming increasingly important for HR teams and business leaders alike.

The discussion on Rīta Panorāma highlights why now is the time for companies to take a closer look at their existing pay systems, including the employee benefits that may otherwise be overlooked.
